Welcome to Upsilon Tau Omega Chapter’s website. It is with honor and dedication that I serve as President of Upsilon Tau Omega Chapter. The chapter was chartered in Southern Prince George’s County in December 1997. Twelve years later we continue to be of service to the Fort Washington Maryland community. We are a large chapter with approximately 160 members. Building on the commitment of our founders over a century ago, the members of Upsilon Tau Omega are committed to continuing the legacy of “Sisterhood” and providing “Service to All Mankind”.  Upsilon Tau Omega Chapter continues to move forward with enthusiasm and commitment to purposeful and rewarding goals that have established our service to the community.

Our presence in the community in 2009 included activities that were in conjunction with the National Program Platforms of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  For example under Platform I – The Non-Traditional Entrepreneur  we showcased members of our chapter that are in business for themselves, Platform II – Economic Keys to Success Upsilon Tau Omega sponsored a workshop on how to protect our identity and finances from identity theft,  Platform III – The Economic Growth of the Black Family we adopted a family in transition and assisted them moving into a new home, providing school supplies to the children in the family and members of the chapter donated gift cards during the holidays to the family, and we partner with Potomac Landing Elementary School providing an outstanding tutoring program on Saturday mornings to the children, Platform V Health Resource management and Economics the chapter partnered with the “Be The Match Registry” to reach out and encourage African American to join the Bone Marrow registry and save a life.

Through our non-profit foundation “Southern Prince George’s County Community Charities” we awarded ten new scholarships to deserving high school students in our community headed to college.  This is a just glimpse of the activities and services we focused on during 2009.  We will continue to give support to developing businesses, strengthening the overall well being of the Black Family, provide information and resources on health and wellness to our community and assist with making our community aware of the importance of the 2010 Census.

Please take a few moments to browse our website and become informed about our chapter and know that we embrace the true meaning of sisterhood and  service .

Sincerely,

Genesta S. Belton
